No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A tragic incident occurred today at polling booth number 245 of Balarampur Primary School in the Udaynarayanpur Assembly constituency of Howrah, where an 81-year-old voter passed away while attempting to cast his vote. The deceased, identified as Purnachandra Dalui from Kurit village under the Amta Police Station, had arrived at the booth accompanied by his son.
According to the victim's son, Tarani, the incident occurred when he requested permission from the deployed central forces to accompany his elderly father inside the polling station to assist him. He alleged that instead of granting the request, a security jawan pushed both of them. Both men reportedly fell to the ground during the altercation. Following the incident, the elderly man’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was rushed to the Amta Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident has triggered significant tension in the area. Both the victim's family members and the Trinamool Congress have leveled serious allegations against the central forces, claiming that the death was a direct result of the security personnel's high-handedness and misconduct.
